***The following contains spoilers for 4x10, the season finale***

Jade and Tabitha put the bones of the children in their bags, the creatures watching them through the plastic, as up above they wait for a signal.

Boyd tells the others to get the rope ladder ready, that the chamber becomes vulnerable as soon as the tree starts to give. Kristi asks what plan B is if they can’t pull the tree out, but he tells her there is no plan B.

Tabitha says they should signal them to pull the tree, but Jade says no. She needs to be ready to go the moment the rope ladder drops with the bones. She questions this and says the bones have to go up last, because they are the only thing protecting the chamber. He admits that he lied and there is nothing protecting the chamber once the tree is out; the bones won’t stop them. If Boyd realized it wasn’t safe, he would have scrubbed the whole thing, and he couldn’t let that happen; she needs to break the cycle. He promises her to slow them down long enough for her to get up; her children deserve to go home. Upset, she tells him not to do it, and he just says that if he had to spend all those lifetimes with anyone, he’s glad it was her.

Up above they hear the signal on the radio and Boyd says to start the truck. The tree is shown pulled up from both perspectives. When they start to pull it, the nightmare creatures come through the plastic, it no longer protecting them. Tabitha picks up the bag of bones, but they don’t go for the talisman. Cowboy says it’s nice all of them being together again. As the tree comes out, sunlight comes down into the chamber, and the monsters, though still human, back up, and Jade and Tabitha realize they can’t come into the middle of the chamber into the light.

When the tree is completely out, Boyd calls to them and they send the ladder down. Jade says they will both get out of there and sends her up, but the rope of the ladder snaps and she falls. Boyd calls to the two of them but can’t hear a response. But it’s too late, as it suddenly becomes dark outside. The others question what is happening.

The creatures start to approach Jade and Tabitha from around the chamber, but they are stopped by a cave in.

It’s not just a cave in, but an earth quake. At the station, Kenny lets Victor out of the locked cell and gets him to stand with him in the doorway. Victor yells that he told them not to pull down the tree and asks why they didn’t listen.

When it’s over, Tabitha notices a way out and Jade yells “Son of a bitch!” They run off as the creatures slowly follow.

The others know they need to leave, but Boyd says to get the chain from the truck; he’s going down into the cave, as he’s not willing to lose anymore people. Kristi tells him that if they don’t leave now, they are going to lose everyone. The monsters screech, approaching, and he knows they are right. He tells everyone to get in the vehicles. Patty stands in shock and Boyd grabs her, shooting at the monsters. They eventually all get in and drive away.

Jade and Tabitha make their way through the tunnels with the transformed creatures in pursuit. They end up in a cell, low exits blocked by bars where Tabitha previously saw the Ankhooey kids. The creatures get closer, but before Cowboy can get through to them, there is another cave in.

Patty is freaking out and Boyd tries to help her. She says they made the place angry and they are going to punish them. She calls Boyd a liar and says he promised they would go home and that she doesn’t want to be there anymore. Acosta swerves away from a creature in the road but hits it. With the distraction, Patty grabs Boyd’s gun from the holster and tries to shoot herself in the head, but Boyd reacts, trying to pull it away and the window gets shot out. Boyd yells at her as she cries. Acosta says they are okay, and they keep driving.

As they pick up furniture from the quake at the clinic, Fatima says they need to do something, but Marielle says they need to wait. Fatima asks her how she is so calm, and she admits she isn’t, but it’s their job to hold it together. Fatima heads to the exit to try to help the others, but Marielle stops her, saying she’s in no shape to go out. Fatima questions what is going on and what is wrong with her that they aren’t telling her, but before Mari can answer her, Fatima sees through Smiley’s eyes. He’s on his way to the clinic. She tells Marielle the thing she gave birth to is coming to the clinic. Marielle tells her it’s ok, that he can’t get inside, but then sees the talisman is missing, as the quake knocked it off the wall. Marielle searches for it, finds it, and then grabs it, but she’s not quick enough to put it up. She grabs Fatima, pulling her into the next room and shuts the door. She goes to hang it on the wall in that room, but is not fast enough, and Smiley comes in. He looks at Fatima and says, “Mother.” Marielle threatens him with a knife and Fatima yells at him to stop, but Smiley slices Marielle across the stomach. Fatima screeches like one of the creatures, and he stops, but it’s too late. He just says “interesting” and walks away. Fatima tries to help Marielle, and at first she tries to push her away, but she eventually just tells her she needs to see Kristi.

Ellis and Kristi drive towards the clinic and see Smiley walking away, so they, followed by Randall, rush out of the car and into the clinic.

Kristi arrives to find Marielle bleeding out on the floor next to Fatima. Marielle tells Kristi she doesn’t want to go and that she loves her. She asks her to kiss her goodbye. Kristi does so, crying, and Marielle dies in her arms.

Sitting at a booth in the diner, Sophia asks Elgin if he understands what she is offering him. It’s a chance to go home and leave it all behind him like she did for Clara. Pretty soon it would all feel like a bad dream that fades a little more with each passing day, and all he would have to do is help her. Elgin looks at Clara, not sure what to do. She asks if he knows why it’s dark outside and says it’s because it’s getting close to the end, and it gets very messy at the end; she’s trying to spare him from that. He tries to sneak away and she asks him where he thinks he is going. There is nowhere for him to hide. She backs him up into the storage room and asks for his hands. She says she will ask him one last time if he would like to accept her bargain. Elgin, however, starts praying instead. Knowing she can’t get him to agree, she squeezes his hands, and he, in pain, drops to his knees. Blood pours from his mouth and eye.

The sun suddenly comes up as quick as it set. She walks out and tells Clara to get rid of the body. When she asks how, she just says it’s not her problem. Clara asks what happens next, and as Sophia takes the talisman from the door, she says “Now I light the match, and I watch it burn.” She tells Clara she will see her soon and then leaves.

Henry is in his room when Donna comes in. She asks if he is all right and he is in shock, because it turned dark in the middle of the day. She tells him that’s new. She tells him he should go down to the station to check on Victor and make sure he’s okay. He says he will straighten up first. He picks up a peach can and finds Victor’s bullets and questions Donna. She tells him that Victor used to carry around a gun in his lunchbox, but Boyd took it. When he asks her where it is now, she tells him it’s probably at the sheriff’s station. He remembers the “other” Victor telling him that once he accepts it as a dream the place will provide what he needs.

Boyd walks up to the clinic and tells Randall he came from Colony House to make sure everyone is okay. He can tell something happened. Ellis is inside comforting Fatima as she explains what happened and how the creature just smiled and left. Boyd comes in, talks to them, and then goes to see Kristi, who is in shock, sitting in the bedroom holding Marielle. He comforts her as she cries.

The hole to the chamber lights up and red lightning shoots up into the sky. The storm continues and people take notice. Boyd, Ellis, Fatima, and Randall watch from the clinic, while Donna, Julie, and Ethan and some others watch from Colony House.

The van pulls up and Ethan tries to go over, but Donna pulls him back. Sara and Bakta help Patty out of the van. Donna asks Acosta about Tabitha, who isn’t there. Ethan gets upset and takes off into Colony House, Julie running after him.

Sophia comes into the church and removes the talisman.

Henry comes to the station and looks for the gun, eventually finding it in Boyd’s desk. Kenny comes in and almost catches him. He tells Kenny he is looking for Victor and takes off.

Ethan questions his mother isn’t coming back. Donna tries to talk to him, but before she can, the cabinets start opening and closing. Dishes start flying so they make their way out of the kitchen. Ethan is upset and says that their mother promised that she was coming back and was going to get them home. He says they are both gone and soon Julie will be gone too, and everyone is going to die, and he will be there alone. Julie tries to comfort him and says he will never be alone. They are going to look out for and take care of each other. She doesn’t know how, but they will figure it out together.

Boyd comes into the station. He tells Kenny that Victor was right; they should never have pulled the tree. Acosta and Sara come in Acosta tells him that they have to go back; the bones are still there, which they told everyone was the key to getting them all out. Boyd tells her that even if they had them, they don’t know how to use them; only Jade and Tabitha did. Kenny asks if there is any chance they survived. Boyd says there was only one exit out of the chamber. If they were alive, they’d be there. Acosta says they can’t give up, but Boyd asks then how to move forward. They just made the sun go down, tore a hole in the sky with lightning, and who knows what it means. In the middle of his tirade, Sara stops him when she hears the morse code on the radio.

The battery dies and Jade is forced to stop. Tabitha asks him if he thinks it went through. He tells her that even if it did, they’d still have to find them. She tells him not to give up and tries the bars. He says they won’t break, but she realizes they can dig under them. She takes the time to tell him that she wants to thank him for what he was willing to do.

Ellis and Randall carry out Marielle’s body and put it in the wheel barrow. Randall and Kristi take it to the church.

Boyd takes Ellis and Fatima back in the clinic and tells them they have a signal from Tabitha and Jade’s radio. He is going back to find them. Ellis says he is going with him, but Boyd rejects it, saying he isn’t letting anyone else die. Ellis asks him if they are hurt how he is going to carry them by himself. Fatima asks if he is sure the signal even came from them. Ellis says they could be trying to bate him. Fatima says they are both going. She can feel them when they are close; she knew Smiley was coming. She sensed it before they saw it, and if she’s with them, maybe she can warn them. They both finally agree.

Sophia comes into the station and takes the talisman, putting it in her bag.

Henry loads the gun. He hides it when Victor knocks. He asks his father if he did something wrong. He was different and happy before he told him about the Man in Yellow and showed him the picture. He thinks he ruined it. Henry tells him he didn’t ruin it, then adds that the problem is it was never real. He pulls out the gun, saying that he has seen what is real and he needs to go back. He begged him to; he has a son and was happy. Victor tells his father something there has lied to him. Before he can shoot him, Ethan comes in to see Victor and he turns the gun to him. At the distraction, Victor punches him and knocks the gun to the floor. He yells at his father, saying that he said he would protect him and asks, and why he would do that.

Sophia goes to the gas station and removes the talisman, putting it in her bag with the rest. Clara comes up and Sophia asks if she got them. She hands Sophia a bag, presumably with the rest of the talisman. Sophia just says “good girl” and takes it.

Boyd, Ellis, and Jade arrive at the cave. Boyd says they need to stay close together. He makes them promise that if anything goes wrong they are to run, without questions or arguments. They head into the cave.

Meanwhile, Jade gives up, saying they can’t do it with their hands; they need the shovels. Tabitha has the idea to use the bones to dig.

The others press forward until Fatima tells them to stop, sensing the creatures. After a few moments, they move on again.

Jade says it’s hard to believe it’s real and the bones were actually children once. Jade starts to dig. Tabitha pulls out a skull and has a memory of Jade playing the music and them seeing their daughter, who she tells him the skull belonged to. They hear the creatures.

The others can hear them as well. Fatima suddenly tells them that they know where Jade and Tabitha are, so they need to hurry.

Jade starts to kick the bars to make it go faster, but it doesn’t help. The others come out of the tunnel to where they are. Fatima warns they are getting close. Boyd and Ellis try to use stones on on the bars but it doesn’t work, so he tells them to back up and shoots the bars. Jade and Tabitha crawl out, bringing the bones with them. Fatima says the monsters are there and she can buy them time, but they have to go. She tells Ellis to remember who she was. The creatures come out. Ellis tries to stop her, but his father pulls him back as Fatima screams and transforms into one of them. Boyd drags him away.

Sophia walks into the forest and talks to the Boy in White, commenting he’s all grown up. They walk towards a faraway tree. He comments that the townspeople have the bones, but she tells him the bottle tree is gone. He tells her she is going to lose this time. She says she always admired his optimism, but they will see. Sophia proceeds to dump all the talisman down the tree.
