Netflix’s American Primeval is a gritty Western that delves into the harsh realities of frontier life in 1857 Utah, where cultural and religious tensions erupt into violence. Abish Pratt (Saura Lightfoot-Leon) is a young newly married Mormon woman who’s life is upended when she is taken captive when her settlement is attacked by Red Feather (Derek Hinkey), a warrior leading his clan against colonizers. While Abish struggles to survive as a captive, she learns about his tribe and their fight for survival. Meanwhile, Red Feather is torn between his duty as a leader and the moral weight of his actions.

Recently, Hinkey and Lightfoot-Leon spoke with SciFi Vision about working on the series, including connecting with their characters, working with costumes, and more.

Set against the backdrop of Long Beach, California, On Call chronicles the partnership between seasoned officer Traci Harmon (Troian Bellisario) and impulsive rookie Alex Diaz (Brandon Larracuente). Still mourning a trainee’s tragic death, Traci enforces rigid protocols to protect Alex. Hower, his rebellious nature challenges her authority and forces both to confront their vulnerabilities. Shot using a mixture of hand-held cameras, bodycam, and dash-cam footage, the series offers an intimate look at their evolving partnership while addressing the emotional toll and ethical dilemmas inherent in modern policing.

The partnership between Traci and Alex is the heart of the series. “The entirety of the show really is about this relationship and as a small microcosm of something much larger,” explained Bellisario to SciFi Vision during a recent interview with the press. “I think what's really incredible about the opportunity that we give our audience is you really get to come in to the patrol car with us. You get to spend all of this time with us going from call to call to call, really not getting any breaks. You never see us at home. It's not about our personal lives; it’s about our lives out in the community doing this job.”

The actress added that the relationship grew organically. “Getting to go to work each day with in incredible scene partner, I think the relationship really had an organic build to it. The more Harmon and Diaz got to know each other and trust each other, so too did myself and Brandon.”

Today, Mayfair Witches returns to AMC with season two. In the second season, Rowan (Alexandra Daddario) faces the challenges of raising Lasher (Jack Huston) while discovering new facets of her powers. Ciprien (Tongayi Chirisa) grows independent from the Talamasca but is drawn back to its mission against Lasher. Moira Mayfair (Alyssa Jirrels), a mind-reader with a vendetta against Lasher, returns to New Orleans and clashes with Rowan while seeking justice for her sister’s death. Meanwhile, Cortland (Harry Hamlin)’s past crimes resurface, influencing the ongoing conflicts. The season also sees the introduction of Sam “Lark” Larkin (Ben Feldman), who provides scientific insight into Lasher’s nature, aiding Rowan in her quest for answers about her family’s dark ties.

Recently, stars Chirisa and Hamlin, as well as newcomers Jirrels and Feldman, spoke with the media about working on the series.

In the dark comedy horror film Bloody Axe Wound, which is out in select theaters on Friday, Abbie Bladecut (Sari Arambulo) finds herself torn between the sinister traditions of her family’s blood trade and the tender feelings associated with her first crush, a rebellious girl in a local band, Sam Crane (Molly Brown). In the small town of Clover Falls, her father, Roger Bladecut (Billy Burke), has established a notorious reputation by recording real-life murders and selling the footage to eager customers. As Abbie becomes more involved in the chilling family business, she starts to question whether it might be time to transform their family legacy into something different.

Brown, along with producer Hilarie Burton Morgan, recently spoke with SciFi Vision about making the film.

Homestead is a post-apocalyptic thriller where the world is thrown into chaos after a nuclear bomb goes off in Los Angeles. The story follows Jeff Eriksson (Bailey Chase), an ex-Green Beret, who, along with his ally, Evan Lee (Jesse Hutch), works security at the fortified prepper compound known as The Homestead, which is owned by survivalist Ian Ross (Neal McDonough). The Homestead becomes a sanctuary amidst the devastation happening on the outside. However, as they settle into their new lives, they and their families must all navigate external threats from desperate outsiders and confront internal conflicts that test their unity and resilience. The film delves into themes of survival, community, and the moral complexities that arise when humanity is pushed to its limits.

Earth Abides is a post-apocalyptic series based on George R. Stewart’s novel of the same name. It follows the struggles of survivors rebuilding society after a pandemic wipes out most of humanity. The story centers on Ish and Emma as they form a new community.

The fourth episode, which premiered last night on MGM+ introduces the character Charlie, played by Aaron Tveit, who is a charismatic yet dangerous man who’s manipulative nature poses significant risks to the community’s stabilities as he both challenges Ish’s leadership and places one of their own in danger.

Recently, Tveit spoke with SciFi Vision about working on the series, how the experience changed, him, and more.

In Homestead, after a nuclear explosion devastates Los Angeles, chaos consumes the nation. Jeff Eriksson (Bailey Chase), an ex-Green Beret, seeks safety with his family at The Homestead, a fortified refuge in the mountains created by wealthy survivalist Ian Ross (Neal McDonough). As threats escalate and resources dwindle, the group struggles to endure both the violence outside and the fragile unity within their sanctuary, forcing difficult moral choices.

Dawn Olivieri stars as Jenna, Ian’s strong-willed wife who urges her husband to help the desperate refugees outside their gates, even as their resources become more scarce.

Now in theaters, the inspiring film Day of the Fight, which was written and directed by Jack Huston, follows the once-renown boxer, Mike Flannigan (Michael C. Pitt), as he is ready to step back into the ring for the first time since leaving prison. He undertakes a journey of redemption through the streets of Brooklyn, reconnecting with his friends and family to make amends for his past misdeeds, risking it all for the most important fight of his life.

Golden Globe winning actor Ron Perlman plays the role of boxing trainer Stevie, mentor and surrogate father figure to Pitt’s Flannigan.

Recently, Perlman spoke with SciFi Vision about working on the film, if he still learns new things as an actor during projects, what he looks for in roles, and much more.

From the team that brought you Superstore comes St. Denis Medical. The mockumentary comedy takes place at an underfunded, understaffed hospital in Oregon where the doctors and nurses  work to take care of their patients all while trying not to lose their sanity.
