FROM follows a group of residents trapped in a town they can never leave, trying to unravel the mystery of the town as they fight to survive nightmarish creatures that come out at night and other threats from the surrounding forest.

Sunday, the highly-anticipated fourth season comes to MGM+. In the new season, the group learns that knowledge comes at a cost, and as some new people arrive in town, things quickly go from bad to worse.

At the end of last season, Harold Perrineau, who stars as Sheriff Boyd Stevens, tortured Elgin (Nathan D. Simmons) in order to find out where he was holding his pregnant daughter-in-law, Fatima (Pegah Ghafoori) captive. Will those actions still affect him this season as he continues to try to hold the town together? According to Perrineau, who recently spoke with SciFi Vision, he did what he had to. “There’s no way that he wanted to do that,” the actor told the site. “…but it is the burden of the self-appointed leader to try to figure it out. So, that’s going to sit with him when they get out or if they don’t, like it’s going to last forever. But I think he believes he’s doing everything that he has to do in order to achieve his mission, which is to get everyone home again.”

People could react differently if the truth comes out. “It feels like a little microcosm of what's going on in our society right now," said Perrineau. “You can find out some of the worst things about anybody, and there’re going to be so many different sides that people are going to take. And I think that's exactly what could and will happen with Boyd, which is the reason that we keep watching it.”

SCIFI VISION:   Great show. So, Boyd in the trailer talks about how he's changing. Talk about specifically how what he did to Elgin is changing him and how he's going to be dealing with that, because that definitely would change a person, torturing somebody.

HAROLD PERRINEAU:   Yeah, yeah, it really, it really, really does. And I think, you know, one of the things that - you know what would be really great? If that's all he had to deal with. [laughs] Like, if all he had to deal with is like, ah, “I tortured Elgin and now I got to figure it out.” But it just keeps going, you know what I mean? Like Smiley is back and, and then there's a new threat and like, it just never stops. And so while I think that Boyd is pretty much - there's no way that he wanted to do that. There's just no way. And so, but it is the burden of the self-appointed leader to try to figure it out. And so, that's going to sit with him when they get out or if they don't, like it's going to last forever.

But I think he believes he's doing everything that he has to do in order to achieve his mission, which is to get everyone home again. And so, however that plays out.

SCIFI VISION:   Now, Elgin says, though, which could happen that the truth will eventually come out. How do you think the rest of the town will react? And also in your own personal opinion, do you think he is still a good leader after everything that's happened?

HAROLD PERRINEAU:   You know, do I think he's still a good leader? I don't know. I think he thinks he's still a good leader. I do think that, but I don't know. I'm going to be like everybody else. I'm going to wait to see how this plays out, and then I'll decide. [laughs]

But I do believe that he believes he's a good leader. So, that's how I keep playing it. You know, when the town finds out, if the town finds out, it's the thing that I think is the reason that people watch our show.

It feels like a little microcosm of what's going on in our society right now. And I think that's exactly what could and will happen with Boyd, which is the reason that we keep watching it, because like on any one of those sides, you can jump and go like, “Of course, he's a great leader! I would have tortured that kid too!” And somebody will be like, “What kind of despicable human being are you?” Like, and I think that that's the fun part.

SCIFI VISION:   Yeah. I was going to say, I can see both sides of that. So, let me ask you, I'm sure probably not to the extent we do, but as actors, do you guys, are you trying to make up theories and stuff of what you think is really going on?

HAROLD PERRINEAU:   I'll tell you, I don't personally, but, I'm on set with, Ricky, He and Corteon Moore every day, and they are constantly [laughs] trying to come up with, like, “You know what I think? H H H, this is what I think is happening.” So, like, I don't, I don't do that. I just kind of like try to roll with it, because I'm actually having fun trying to figure it out like everybody else. So, like, I don't come up with a ton of theories, but I do have like, as I keep playing different parts of Boyd, like, “Huh, I wonder if this leads to…” or “if that goes to…” And then each time I think I know, I'm really surprised by what John writes. So, that's actually the fun part.
