***The following is a detailed recap of episode 309 of FROM, “Revelations: Chapter One,” and it contains spoilers for the episode.***

Boyd and Ellis are looking for Fatima. It’s getting dark, but Ellis doesn’t want to leave without her. Boyd tells him she is safe because she has the talisman, but Ellis doesn’t think she would just leave. Boyd tells him that they can come back in the morning. Boyd’s hand starts to shake, and then he stumbles and almost falls. Ellis helps him.

Fatima is in the root cellar. Elgin comes in with a bag of stuff to help her be more comfortable. Fatima asks him to let her go. He says she’s not a prisoner; it’s for her own good. He’s trying to protect her. She tells him she saw the thing that’s been speaking to him, and what’s she’s saying isn’t true. The thing inside her isn’t good and won’t do good things. She says to look what happened to Tilly. He tells her that that happened because the baby was scared and hungry. He tells her she has to stop fighting. Elgin tells her she needs to eat, and then the stronger the baby will be, and before she knows it, she will be going home – they all will. He tells her that the baby helped them once – the night he found out she was pregnant he remembered his dream, and that helped Boyd save the town. He gives her the jar of his blood and tries to get her to drink it. He says she helped him so much when he got there and please to let him help her. He gets her to drink some of it.

Tabitha has followed Victor into the church. He doesn’t want to talk anymore. She tells him that she knows it’s difficult, but what he can remember could help them understand. Victor says that it won’t. He says he can’t help them; all he does is makes things worse. His mother wouldn’t have gone if he had not told her. He doesn’t want to remember anymore. Tabitha takes his arm and seems to see something. Victor says he’s sorry he can’t help her or anyone. He leaves. Sara asks Tabitha what happened when she touched him. She says she doesn’t know. Kenny comes in and tells Tabitha she needs to come with him, because something happened to Julie in the woods.

Kristi checks out Julie. She doesn’t see any signs of trauma. Julie tells her brother and father that she is fine. Marielle brings her some water. Kristi asks her to walk her through again what happened. Julie tells her that she walked into the ruins and blacked out. Marielle questions she doesn’t remember anything else, and Julie just says she had a really weird dream, but that’s all. Kristi wants to keep her overnight. Kristi and Marielle leave to give them space. Jim asks what they were doing out there. She tells him that it was stupid. She went to the woods the previous day with Randall. Jim starts to question this, and she tells him it’s not like that, but they are interrupted when Julie’s mother shows up. She tells her mother she’s fine.

Randall looks in the mirror and starts to take his bandage off and hears cicadas. He holds his head in pain. Jim comes in to talk to him, and it stops. Randall asks what he wants. Jim asks what he was doing with Julie in the woods, and Randall just asks what Julie told him. Randall tells him that if this is his version of the “big bad dad” routine, he’s not in the mood. Jim just tells him that after what happened to Julie, him, and Marielle, she won’t talk about it, and he knows she’s going through something he can’t understand, but he thought Randall might. He tells Jim that he was teaching Julie how to drive. She said she didn’t have her learner’s permit, so they boosted the Colony House van. He freaked out about something, and they ended up in the woods. Randall says that he doesn’t mean to be a dick, but he’s got his own shit going on. He says that he can’t explain what happened to him, and he doesn’t know about the ruins, but he told her not to go back, because it felt wrong. Randall says his advice is to get the van and teach her to drive, because there is nothing they can do about the rest; none of them are getting out of there alive. Jim says he doesn’t accept that and leaves.

Boyd and Ellis go into the station. Boyd doesn’t want to go to the clinic; the sun is going down, and he has to ring the bell. He tells Ellis he knows what is going on with him and has known for a while. Boyd tells him that wherever Fatima is, she has the talisman and is safe. He tells Ellis to sit down, because they need to talk.

Donna has a flashback about when they were celebrating Fatima’s one year anniversary for coming to the town, talking about how much everyone cares about her.

Jim and Tabitha talk. Jim says the kids are both asleep. Tabitha tells him that she could have stayed with Julie, and he could have taken Ethan back to the house. Jim tells her that he hasn’t been doing a very good job. He says that he knows she’s trying to make sense of the place and what happened, and if there is even a chance it could lead them home, then he’s in, all the way, no more second guessing or pushing back. Tabitha says that there is something Julie isn’t telling them. He agrees.

Ellis asks Boyd how long he has known about the Parkinson’s. He tells him it started just before he went out into the woods with Sara. Ellis asks if anyone else knows, and he tells him that Kristi and Kenny do. Ellis is upset; he should have told him. Boyd didn’t want to worry him but is telling him now. Ellis asks if that has happened before with his leg, but it hasn’t. So, it seems like it’s getting worse. Boyd says there is something else that he needs to tell him. When he was in the barn with Tian Chen, they made him watch her die. The whole thing was a set up; they wanted to break him. Boyd suggests that what is happening with Fatima and the baby is his fault, but his son says it isn’t because of him. Boyd says that they don’t know that, and now Tilly is dead, and Fatima is out there somewhere, and he’s sitting there like a gimp. One of the creatures, likely hearing him upset, knocks on the window and starts taunting him. Boyd starts screaming at her, but Ellis pulls him away from the window.

Sara is gluing the ceramic snowman back together. She puts it down on the table, happy. She suddenly starts screaming as she hears voices again. She clutches her head in pain, yelling to leave her alone.

Elgin goes down into the root cellar. Fatima is trying to pull a piece of metal from the bed frame. She looks a lot further along in the pregnancy than she should be. She gets it off and hides it in her sleeve. Elgin comes in and says that he told her once she started to eat, things would go faster. He tells her the baby will be there in no time. He has clothes for her he got from storage that will fit better. She asks him to help her get up, and she slices his hand and runs through the door, but he pulls her back as she screams.

Boyd tells Ellis that he can’t go out there blind; she could be anywhere, but Ellis says that he can’t just stay there. Boyd tells him they will get a search party together. Ellis says that if Donna tells everyone what happened, no one will want to help them. Boyd says he will talk to Donna. Sara comes in and asks them if Fatima is okay. She guesses that she’s missing. Ellis, getting angry asks what she knows about it. Boyd tries to calm him down. Sara tells them that she heard the voices last night for the first time since the ruins. They told her that Fatima didn’t leave on her own, that something took her. They want them to know that she’s close, and she’s afraid. They were laughing, because they know they wont find her in time. She says that they want them to know they can’t save her.

Victor starts dropping and throwing stuff out the window of his bedroom. People are down below. Clara comes in and asks him what he’s doing. He says he drew the stuff, because he thought they would help, but all they do is hurt; he wants them gone. He leaves the room, and Acosta comes up the stairs, seeing what’s going on, and he tells her to get out of the way. Kenny and Acosta both follow him. Victor grabs an axe from the kitchen, and Kenny, concerned, tells him to put it down. Victor says that he isn’t going to hurt anyone. Kenny tells him he is scaring people. Victor says that they should be scared; they aren’t scared enough. Victor starts saying he was so stupid and keeps hitting himself in the face. He tells them just to let him go. Acosta says they will if he tells them what he needs the axe for. Victor says he is going to go chop down the tree.

The Matthews family comes into the diner and are greeted by Bakta. She talks about how Ethan helped with cleaning and reorganizing the place and tells him that any time he wants to lend a hand, she could use a helper. She tells them that Kenny was really supportive of opening the diner again and that she thinks it was hard for him to see the place empty all time, and after what happened to Tilly, people need a place that feels normal. Julie asks if they found who did it to her, but she says they haven’t.

Donna is in her room looking at the photo of herself and her sister. Boyd comes in, and she tells him that she isn’t going to say anything about what Fatima did because of what she means to people there, her spirit and her light. She doesn’t think people could take it; she doesn’t think she could either. Boyd tells her Fatima’s gone. He tells her he had Fatima in the shed, but when they went back, she was gone. He says that the voices Sara hears said that something took her, and she’s close by, but they won’t be able to save her until it’s too late. He tells her that Sara said the voices were laughing. Donna tells him to ring the bell, and they will call a meeting.

Ethan doesn’t like the food, because he says he misses Tian Chen’s pancakes. Ethan leaves to go to the bathroom. Julie tells them that Ethan thinks it’s his fault what happened to her, because she asked him what she should do, if she should go inside the ruins or not. She knows that it was stupid, but it felt so much like one of the stories they always used to tell them. She was afraid and didn’t know who else to ask. She tells them that the whole perfect family breakfast thing, she knows what they are trying to do, and it’s not making anything better but rather worse.

Boyd rings the bell for people to come. Donna comes in the diner and says they need everyone to come outside. Jim says he will wait for Ethan and for them to go. Ellis asks his dad what he’s doing, but he just tells him they are okay. Donna says that what happened to Tilly, she knows they are scared and want answers, they want them too, but right now they don’t have them. Meanwhile, Ethan comes out of the bathroom and Jim brings him outside. Boyd says that Fatima is missing. Nobody has seen her since the previous night. Donna says they are looking for a search party to search the town for her. A woman asks if that is what killed Tilly, but Donna says that they don’t know. Boyd says that he doesn’t have all the information about what happened, but he does know she’s close by. He knows that, because something there told them that wants them to know she’s alone and afraid and thinks they don’t have what it takes to find her. Boyd says that he won’t tell them what to do, but they didn’t always have the talismans. Those things in the woods would come out at night and take whoever they wanted. People were living day to day, moment to moment, hour to hour. They found the talismans and proved the place couldn’t break them, and now it’s trying to again. They can either lay down and die or they can say fight back. They’ve proven they can before, and he’s asking for their help to prove it again. Boyd tells them that it’s their choice, and there is no shame in backing out. Bakta asks how they will do it. He tells her they are going to pair up and go out there and cover every inch of the place.

Julie tells her parents that she has to help; Fatima was her friend. Ethan wants to help too. Jim says that he will take Ethan and Tabitha can take Julie, and they will cover more ground that way.

Boyd tells Ellis that there are going to be a lot of questions, so it’s best if one of them finds her first. He says that they have a better chance if they split up. He tells Ellis they will find her.

Boyd asks Kenny to come with him. Elgin tells Ellis that he will search with him, anything to help.

Fatima changes her clothes. She sits on the bed and takes her shoes off then drops in pain. She finds a trap door in the floor under the dirt and tries to dig to open it but can’t.

Acosta is paired with Donna. Acosta tells her that she doesn’t know what they are doing there, and Donna says that no one is forcing her to help. Acosta says that Boyd said something told them Fatima was out there, but asks what that means. Donna tells her it came from Sara. Acosta questions that she’s the girl who murdered people. Donna explains that she is connected to the place in ways that are hard to understand. Acosta asks her what if she killed both Tilly and Fatima and just made up the kidnapping. Donna says that that is not what happened. When she asks her how she knows that, Donna says that she just does. She asks Donna why the magical voice wouldn’t just tell her where Fatima is, or better yet, who killed Tilly. Donna says that’s not the way it works. She tells Donna to tell her how it works. She knows Donna knows something she’s not telling her. Acosta says she’s a good cop and can be a good asset. Donna asks if she expects her to walk through way all the ways the place will mess with your head. Donna says she doesn’t have time for a tutorial. Fatima is out there, and they need to find her because of what she means to the people of the town, because of what she means to her. She tells Acosta that if she wants her to believe she is good at her job, she needs her to trust her and help her. She asks if she can do that. Acosta says she can. Donna says when it’s over, they will talk.

Boyd and Kenny call for Fatima. Boyd knows Kenny is living at Colony House now and says that he’s been meaning to look in on him. Kenny says that it’s fine; he knows he has bigger things to worry about. Boyd says that there are always bigger things. He tells Kenny that he realizes that it will never be the same between them, because he lied to him about what Sara did to his father, and he knows there is a part of him that will never forgive him. Boyd says that the place requires you to make decisions you would never want to make otherwise, but people live and die there based on your ability to make those decisions. Boyd tells him that the Parkinson’s is getting worse; his leg froze, and he almost couldn’t stand. He says that he’s not saying it will be right away, but he’s got a clock ticking on him, and it started ticking faster. Boyd needs to know that when he’s gone, or when he can’t do anything, that Kenny will step up and look after the place. He says that it has to be him wearing the badge and not some hothead like Acosta or anyone else who will come through there. Boyd needs to know his family is in good hands. Kenny tells him that he’s not taking his badge, but if he’s still looking for a deputy, he will take that one back. Kenny says they should keep looking.

Jade is on a ladder hanging bottles on a tree behind the bar. He sees Christopher holding Jasper on the roof and asks him what he wants. Jade tells him to try something new; its not doing anything for him anymore. Jasper screams, and Jade almost falls off of the ladder. Henry comes over asking who he was talking to. Jade says nobody, so Henry says he will rephrase it and asks who he thought he was talking to. Jade just asks him what he wants. Henry questions why he put the bottles up. He tells Jade that Miranda made one in their yard and asks what it’s for. Jade just says he thought it might help. Henry asks if he has figured out the numbers. Jade just asks if there is something he can help him with. He tells Jade that most of the town is out looking for the sheriff’s daughter-in-law and questions he didn’t hear bell for the town meeting. Jade admits he was just busy. He asks Jade to come help him look. He was hoping they could talk about Victor.

Victor comes to the bottle faraway tree. He starts hitting it with the axe.  The Boy in White shows up and tells him to stop and says that he can’t do that. Victor says that the bad tree does bad things, but the Boy in White tells him that it is important. Victor asks him why it is important and why he won’t help them. The Boy in White tells him that it is because he tried with Christopher, and he thinks they need to learn for themselves; it’s the only way they will understand. Victor tells him that he looks different. The Boy in White says that Victor does as well. Victor asks him why he is changing now after all these years, but he just tells Victor that everything is changing now. Victor asks if that is bad, because he doesn’t know what to do. He says to tell him how he can help them and that he’s supposed to be his friend. The Boy in White says that he is his friend. Victor says then to help him and tell him what to do. He just tells Victor not to cut down the tree and walks away, not answering him when he calls him to come back.

Ellis and Elgin are looking for Fatima. Elgin tells him that when he was little, a friend of his went missing and the whole neighborhood was out looking for him. His grandmother told him not to worry, but he was so scared. It turned out he was at a playground on the other side of town having the time of his life. Ellis questions if he thinks that’s what this is, that they are all scared for nothing. Elgin says he just thinks sometimes they think the worst when they really don’t know. Ellis is getting upset and says he already lost his mother, he can’t lose Fatima. Elgin asks about it. Ellis says that when she died, the way she died, he can’t go through that again, he won’t.

Jim and Ethan end up at the RV. Jim says it’s best to check everywhere, plus it will be a good place for them to talk. He takes him inside. Ethan says it doesn’t look like Fatima is in there. Jim says that the last time he was in there he was in bad shape, and all he remembered thinking was that it was his fault. He was the one who was driving, and he was the one who didn’t see the other car coming. He just kept thinking he was going to lose Ethan like they lost Thomas, and he never would have forgiven himself. Ethan tells him that it wasn’t his fault, and Jim asks him why not. Ethan says it’s because he was scared, and he was doing the best he could. Jim suggests it’s like Ethan was when he told Julie to go into the ruins. Jim tells him that things happen there that they can’t control. The place wants them to blame themselves and be scared. He has to remember that they are only doing their best, especially when bad things happen. It’s how they face those things that matter, not the decisions they make or whose fault it was, but how they take care of each other and that they always do their best. He understands. They start to leave when they hear “Thomas” on the radio asking Jim not to leave him alone. Ethan tells his father that he was right; it’s not Thomas. They leave. The voice asks where they are going and laughs.

Tabitha opens the back of the truck and explains to Julie that she and Victor came there after they came out of the tunnels. Fatima isn’t there so she closes it. Julie asks if that’s how it’s going to be now, that people start disappearing one by one. Julie tells her that Fatima was the first person that made her seem like the place might actually be okay. Her mother tells her that they are going to find Fatima and not to worry. Julie tells her that she doesn’t think she was dreaming when she blacked out in the ruins. It was almost like she went somewhere, like one second she was in this weird chamber, and she, Randall, and Marielle were there, and they were screaming, and then there was this guy chained to the wall. Then she was in the tunnels, and she heard her mother talking to Victor. She tried to find her, but her voice kept getting further away. Then she heard the children screaming Ankhooey. All she kept thinking about was that she might not make it back. What if she was lost and no one ever found her, and she is alone? Julie says she was scared. Tabitha tells her that she isn’t alone and never will be. She hugs her daughter. Tabitha sees one of the children watching them who beckons them to follow. They do.

Henry tells Jade that everything about who Victor is and what he’s been though, he feels like he’s starting over with a whole different person. Jade says he is. Jade asks why he is talking to him and not Tabitha or someone else. Henry says that Tabitha has her own kids to worry about. Victor tells Jade not to take it the wrong way, but he reminds him of his son. Victor is off trying to make a block of wood tell a story, and Jade is on a ladder screaming at people who aren’t there. Jade says that’s fair. Henry asks him how it would be for him if his father showed up there and saw him. He asks what Jade would want him to say. Jade says he would want to know where he’s been his whole life. Jade says that he’s trying to figure out how to fix Victor, but he can’t, because he’s not broken. Victor is the product of what the place made him. He’s been surviving there decades and has been shaped by the place. He’s like Tarzan growing up in the jungle, and Henry’s the one who comes along and makes him feel like an asshole because he doesn’t know how to use a fork. When he starts to leave, Henry asks Jade where he is going, and he says he’s going back to the bar where at least he can pretend he’s being productive.

Ellis is with Elgin looking for Fatima at the Brundles. Elgin says that Fatima was his proxy and brought him there. She helped him out a lot since he got to the town. Ellis says she’s helped a lot of people; that’s what she does. Elgin says that he’s sorry about what happened to his mother. He tells Ellis he’s not going to lose Fatima; she will be okay. Ellis tells him just to stop. He appreciates him being out there, but he just can’t do that. Elgin says that he has to tell him something. He says when they were on the bus, he had a dream. Ever since then, he feels like something has been trying to talk to him. Elgin suggests that all of what is happening could be for a reason and Fatima is out there doing something to help them. It might be a good thing, the baby and everything. Ellis asks why it would have anything to do with the baby. Elgin says he is just saying that they don’t have all the information yet. He tells Ellis that he doesn’t think he should be afraid and that Fatima is going to be okay. Ellis says to keep looking.

Fatima tries to open the trap door but can’t. She suddenly sees the Kimono woman.

Julie and Tabitha follow the Ankhooey girl.

Fatima asks the woman what she wants from her. The kimono woman shushes her, but Fatima keeps yelling at her to stay away from her, so she covers her mouth and forces her onto the bed.

Tabitha and Julie are led to the open root cellar. Tabitha asks where the girl went. Tabitha says that someone is down there and approaches it. She calls down but no one answers. She tells Julie to stay there and goes in. She goes down the steps while the kimono woman keeps Fatima quiet. Victor is there. She asks what he’s doing there. He tells her that that is where it happened. It’s where his mother left them. He says that it’s not fair. All these years he thought there was a reason that he lived. He was the reason she died. Tabitha tells him that it wasn’t his fault and hugs him. She says he was just a little boy. She suddenly has a vision of Miranda hugging him and Eloise. She pulls back and runs up the stairs, saying it’s impossible. She runs out upset as her vision continues. She sees Miranda run towards the faraway tree, but she is stopped by Smiley who attacks her. Tabitha cries and when Julie comes up tells her not to touch her, but rather reaches out to Victor. Julie asks how she can help her.
